All about the Most Popular Diets
1 – The Atkins Diet
What is it?
It is a diet that prohibits the absorption of carbohydrates in all its forms in order to stop the production of insulin and therefore cause weight loss. The Atkins diet allows no starch, fruit, candy, and alcohol and limit intake of vegetables less than 100 g of vegetables per day. However, you can eat at will cheeses, meats and other protein sources, without question the calories they provide. Some followers of the Atkins diet will swallow up to 3000 calories per day and still lose weight!
For or against
Although, strange as it may seem, the Atkins diet causes rapid weight loss, it is extremely dangerous and the fact that it is back in fashion some time ago is worrying. Such a diet causes serious nutritional deficiencies, constipation due to lack of fiber and severe dehydration. Moreover, since its adherents often eat high-fat, Atkins is also a gateway to cardiovascular disease and cholesterol problems. In addition, weight loss, although it is impressive from the start is generally not sustainable. Requirements of the Atkins diet are not suitable for long-term maintenance and weight is taken as soon as it starts to eat a balanced diet.
Conclusion…
To be avoided! Weight loss should never be at the expense of total health. While the Atkins diet may seem attractive to large gourmet cheese lovers and meat, it quickly becomes boring … as a day without bread!
2 – The Scarsdale diet
What is it?
The Scarsdale diet had a real heyday in the 80s, and we all know at least one woman (if not 10) who followed scrupulously … at least for a day or two! Very low calorie diet Scarsdale only allows virtually no sugar and fat. It is based on a very tight program of two weeks during which they must strictly follow a set menu.
This menu contains no oil or fat, no sugar, no cheese, no alcohol, no drink containing sugar or fat, no starch with the exception of two slices of bread per day. Fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, in limited quantities, are honored. Beyond the two weeks of dieting, start a maintenance diet, which aims to maintain the gains. This maintenance diet is of course more permissive than the starting diet, but it is still very restrictive. Returning to the strict diet two weeks later and the cycle continues until the desired weight is reached…
For or against
The Scarsdale diet promotes rapid weight loss if followed to the letter. However, if you stop the diet, the weight lost is often taken in a short time, because the metabolism is slowed by calorie diet.
This diet is not compatible with a normal social life, since meals are prescribed very strict. Moreover, it is very monotonous and can cause nutritional deficiencies. The fact that it is very low calorie diet and the large number of forbidden foods can quickly become very frustrating and cause “rages” uncontrollable food.
Conclusion
Difficult to maintain in the long term, the Scarsdale diet is used by some people who want a quick weight loss for a special occasion. It must be remembered that the weight lost is quickly regained when the program stops. It is not a healthy way to lose weight in the long term.
